The writing process consists of
five steps: prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing.
I started out not being a big fan of the writing process. It had to
because although five steps is not a lot but when getting to it, it is. The prewriting
didn’t help me in the sense that once understanding the prewriting step I was
now knowing what to write as seeing the prompt but helped me think where I can
find sources and what sources I should use. Drafting is the second step and is
just as important as the first step because it is when you gather all your
information you want to use on your essay. Then putting it in your own words
and starting a draft. This is where I had trouble as well because I used
sources that had anything to do with the prompt even if it didn’t make sense in
my paper. As writing my first paper I
didn’t take these five steps into heart but as the weeks passed I came to
realize that the steps were helpful and if doing it correctly it made your
writing process faster and easier. The first step was prewriting and the most
difficult for me. I always feel once knowing the prompt I know off the bat what
I want to write but once lifting up my pencil I can’t seem to write anything
but then soon caught on what were the best sources. The third step is revising
and is in which you proofread it. It helped a lot when I would read my paper
more than once and read it out loud. The fourth step is editing. I got my
papers proofread by classmates and friends who are in higher writing classes.
Their input helped significantly and they marked off what was incorrect. My
papers always had mistakes because I get into my papers and writing that when I
think of something I want to say I’m still typing the last thing I though of
leading me to leave out words. The final step is the simplest step and by this
step all that is finish up on any touches left and then turning it in.
